How does the pressing process work?
All flowers are pressed by hand in my home studio in Coulsdon, Surrey. This process can take upto 6-8 weeks to press correctly. The best petals are then arranged by me, by hand, into a grid system (as shown in the artworks on this site). Before anything is secured down, I email you a positional image for approval (One round of amends is included if needed). I do not arrange the flowers back into a bouquet format as I can’t guarantee that all flowers in the bouquet will press correctly plus I prefer the more contemporary approach of placing the flowers according to their colours and size.
How long does it take?
The whole process usually takes 8-10 weeks from delivery to collection of your final framed artwork.
When should I bring my flowers?
Please drop your bouquet to me within a week of your wedding or event. No need to keep them too damp — just leave the stems in fresh water until you drop them to me.
Will my flowers press well?
Most colours press beautifully, though pale shades (ie pale pinks, creams, whites) tend not to hold their colour as well ( Lilies also turn black in the press so I don’t advise pressing these). I can usually enhance any flowers that don’t press as well with inks, pastels and dyes if needed.
What sizes and prices do you offer?
10 x 12 inches: £250
14 x 11 inches: £275
16 x 12 inches: £300
16 x 20 inches: £350
For any larger sizes just ask as I can accommodate most requests.
Prices include hand pressing, a bespoke artwork, varnishing, and professional hand mounting and framing. Larger sizes are available on request.
Do you enhance the colour of any flowers?
Pressed flowers are delicate by nature and the final frame should always be kept out of harsh tungsten light or direct sunlight. No responsibility can be held by me for any natural fading that may occur though everything is done during the pressing process to preserve colour. If needed I can enhance colours and I also use spray paints on selected flowers when I think it is appropriate for the artwork.
How does payment work?
Payment is made on collection, by bank transfer or cash an invoice issued after framing. I don't take any payment upfront, as I like to check the flowers have pressed well before starting the artwork. A £50 framing deposit is required for sizes 16x20 and larger.
Is there any paperwork?
Yes — I send an acceptance of commission form before your flowers are delivered, which I ask to be signed and returned.
Can you incorporate any other elements into the final artwork?
Yes, every picture is bespoke to you so if you’d like to include a wedding photograph into your artwork let me know. There is a charge of £10 extra to the prices above if this is required. I have also included small family mementoes/other than images into artworks previously. I also often include ribbon and the pins that hold the bouquet together. If you have any requests just ask I can accommodate most requests.
How does framing work?
Once you flowers are secured down I send the picture off to a local framer in Westerham. Pictures are usually framed in white as it places the emphasis on the flowers (if you would like black or any other colour just ask and we will try to accommodate).
What are the flowers mounted on?
I use fine white watercolour as the base of the artworks. All flowers are varnished using a matt varnish to prevent sun damage.
