How are the flowers pressed?

I use a variety of pressing methods according to each flower. Some are pressed in a traditional vintage flower press and some require that I use a more modern pressing technique. All the flowers are carefully washed before pressing and are pressed between pages of fine blotting paper. Some flowers are dyed to brighten the pressed flower to best reflect the original colours of your flowers.

Do you arrange a wedding bouquet back into a bouquet style design?

I aim for a contemporary feel to all my commissions. I arrange the flowers into a grid like display as shown in the examples on this site. I choose not to arrange the flowers back into a bouquet style as I aim for a more modern style. The best flowers and petals are selected and used in the pictures. If you would like a whole bouquet style picture I also offer bespoke illustrations drawn in illustrator. ( Other flower pressers may look like they offer a bouquet style arrangement but often this is a photograph taken of the flowers rather than a hand pressed bouquet arrangement).

Will the flowers fade?

Pressed flowers are quite delicate in nature. I advise to display artworks out of direct sunlight and harsh tungsten light. All flowers are varnished with a matt varnish to reduce any possible fading. In some instances we use ink and acrylic paints to enhance colours. Flowers are a natural material so some fading may occur and we cannot fully guarantee that they won’t fade slightly over time. The flowers will keep their form even if the colour fades. No responsibility can be taken by Flower press studios for fading of artworks. If some natural fading does occur though this often enhances the artworks though, as subtle variations in shades can develop and can look even more beautiful giving a lovely muted vintage feel!.

Are any other materials used?

Some petals are enhanced with Windsor and Newton inks, acrylic paints and metallic spray paints. Flowers are attached to watercolour paper using PVA glue. We aim to use recyclable materials for all our packaging.
